The Mountain Calf Sales in the high country are finished for another year.
People were surprised by the quality of the cattle, albeit lighter in weight than 2017.
Competition came from far and wide, with successful purchases heading to Coonamble, and Gunnedah in the north, to South Australia.
Aiding competition was an order for live export cattle.
South and West Gippsland competition was less evident, due to the lack of grass.
However, prices were better than expected, with 2017 drop steers selling mostly between $800-$1170, or 315-400 cents per kilogram live weight.
Competition for heifers was also very good with good purchases for breeding heifers, and backgrounding too.
