DAYS Whiteface stud’s decision to sell all its top bulls on-farm produced an on-property sale record of $26,000.
The result was a feature of this year’s combined annual Poll Hereford bull sale on Monday.
The sale topper, Days Horizon M028, offered by Lachy and Lou Day, created a lot of presale attention at the Bordertown sale.
The Days Wizard J204 son was out of a heifer.
The young bull was admired by many for the amazing depth of quality breeding in its pedigree, plus exceptional performance data.
The bull was in the top one per cent on Breedplan for gestation length, scrotal size and eye muscle area, plus the top five per cent on carcaseweight and all the breed's indices.
Willaura based Yarram Park Herefords, who flew in on a one bull mission went home happy after being the successful buyers of the top lot.
The $26,000 sale top was $2000 more than 2017’s record.
Fifty seven registered bidders from three states converged on the Day families’ combined sale.
The support ensured the top end of the sale was exceptionally strong with 22 bulls making $10,000 or above.
However with very dry conditions in the northern pastoral zones, regular station orders were lacking.
The $8568 average reflected the sale’s strength but was down $946 on last year’s combined result.
Days Whiteface stud had 18 of the 22 five figured bulls after deciding to bypass the Wodonga and Dubbo National Show & Sales for the first time.
Days sold 44 of 49 bulls for a superb $10,049 average.
Both vendors were very happy with the overall result.
“It was great to get such good support with buyers coming from near and far," Alastair said.
“There was real value at the end of the sale, but we were happy to have such a good overall result.”
Lachy Day said they knew pastoral orders would be lacking so clearance was always going to be a question mark.
“We believe we were able to present very well-made bulls with very good performance levels, and were very happy with the support we received,” he said.
