More than 140 years of farming the soils of the Wycheproof district by the Denney family will come to an end with the auction of their property Ennismore later this month.
To be offered in nine lots, the 2266 hectare aggregation just west of Wycheproof, offers a rare chance for district landholders to add to their existing landholdings.
Ennismore is situated approx 10km from Graincorp CRP and Wycheproof Regional Saleyards, with the Wimmera Mallee pipline connected to all lots.
The Denney family began farming in the area 144 years ago while additional blocks had been added over the years.
Selling agents, Elders, Jim Coffey, said the property was coming onto the market after the retirement of the three Denney brothers - David, Sandy and Donald.
The brothers’ father Alex Denney played 35 games for Collingwood in 1947-48 after being recruited from Caulfield Grammar.
Alex Denney still holds the record for votes in the North Central League’s Feeny Medal of 34 set while playing for Wycheproof in 1952.
The family is also connected to Collingwood’s Coventry family. Gordon Coventry’s great grandson James Walker is the nephew of the Denney brothers and played for Fremantle Dockers.
Jim Coffey said the property was being offered in single, smaller lots to maximise the opportunities for local landholders to acquire suitable sized blocks of land to add to their existing enterprises.
The offering had resulted in a great deal of attention locally as well as attracting wide interest from outside the area with a large number of inspections conducted. The soils are renowned as among the best in the district.
The largest lot is “Ennismore Homestead” of 340 hectares with improvements including a weatherboard house, three-stand shearing shed and machinery sheds. The balance of the lots, many of which were adjoining, range from 130ha up to 332ha.
Mr Coffey said the country comprised excellent balance of red and grey loams and all lots were in “good heart” after conservative cropping programs. All lots are being offered with crop stubbles including wheat, barley vetch and lentils.
The property was also suited to running livestock and all lots are connected to the Wimmera Mallee pipeline.
The "Ennismore" properties affords an opportunity to secure quality broadacre farmland in a renowned area, and presents in good heart with an excellent balance of red and grey loams.
Ennismore" is situated approx 10km from Graincorp CRP and Wycheproof Regional Saleyards, with the Wimmera Mallee pipline connected to all lots.
The auction is on Wednesday, February 28, at the Wycheproof Golf Club.
