Year 8 student Grace Austin has made the very most of the opportunities afforded to her through a scholarship to The Hamilton and Alexandra College.

Commencing in Year 6, Grace has boarded for the past two years.

She has been actively involved in numerous sports, outdoor camps, public speaking, music and drama.

Grace admits balancing everything can have its challenges.

“I have comfortably been able to strike the right balance with the support of the people around me,” she said.

“We largely receive guidance and direction from both our teachers and peers at The Hamilton and Alexandra College.

“This allows for me and the rest of the student body to work hard at our studies as well as being involved in many activities.

Academically we have the opportunity to go to after school studies in the library as well as prep in the boarding house where committed and giving staff provide extra support beyond the classroom - Grace Austin

“Academically we have the opportunity to go to after school studies in the library as well as prep in the boarding house where committed and giving staff provide extra support beyond the classroom. This support has enabled so many of us to flourish and manage the many demands of a busy school life.

“My teachers have pushed me to do my best in the classroom as well as passionately encouraging me out on the sporting field.”

Grace’s mother cites integrity, values and relationships as some of the main reasons her family chose the college to educate their children.

“The school’s culture along with the excellent balance between physical and emotional wellbeing reassured us we were setting up a solid foundation for our children’s future,” she said.

The Hamilton and Alexandra College prides itself on the extraordinary range of opportunities for its small size, a spokesman said.

“The relationships developed between staff, students and parents have enabled students to strive for their best, juggling the many demands of school life with a balanced and highly supportive  learning environment,” he said.
