According to Chris Jarrod and his son Hamish their Forest View property at Sandford, near Casterton, has experienced its best start to a season in years.
They said although it got “stinking” wet in winter the spring and summer seasons have been absolutely idea, and they are still receiving rain even though the calendar has turned to December.
“Our pastures are still green and growing whereby, normally, the paddocks would be taking on an oaten appearance and sometimes they have even been bare and brown by this time in the year” Chris Jarrod said.
The Jarrod’s Pathfinder-blood Angus calves, bred from Boonaroo and Weeran-blood Angus cows, have started to do exceptionally well now their pastures have begun to seed.
With this Mr Jarrod says the expectations are that an increased number of their steer-drop could easily top the 400kg liveweight mark, with a large percentage expected in the 350 to 380kg range.
The Jarrod’s Forest View Angus steer calves will be offered in the Landmark Casterton all-breeds steer sale on Thursday January 9. There they anticipate to yard 60 Angus steers while their heifer line of 25 will test the market in the Landmark/Elders Casterton heifer sale on Thursday January 18.
