“It’s an exciting time to be in ag,” beamed Marcus Winter-Cook, Tahara, when Stock & Land called to preview his Murndal Hereford calves being set for next month’s Hamilton weaner sales.
“It’s the best I’ve ever experienced, and two huge years in succession,” he added.
On the subject of his February/March-drop weaners, which were in the weaning yards at the time, he said:
“I thought last year’s drop was the best we’ve ever had but with a month to go before selling these could do better.”
“These are great conditions to wean,” Mr Winter-Cooke said.
“It is cool, moist and there is no dust to cause irritations.”
On the markets, and the returns being received by growers, he said there is now great incentive to invest especially into farms – to increase their capacity and upgrade infrastructure.
“Here on Murndal there is a lot of area to increase capacity which we are doing.”
The Murndal Hereford weaners, which have been almost exclusively Yarram Park-blood for the past 10-12 years, will see the steer portion offered with Kerr & Co Livestock in the Hamilton Independent agents Whiteface steer sale on Wednesday, January 10, while a selected heifer line will go to market on January 17 in the Hamilton Independent agents’ Beef breeds heifer sale.
