The possibility of heavy rain, forecast for the weekend, dampened buyer enthusiasm at last week’s Wangaratta store sale, although agents said it was still strong.
With a total yarding of 940 cattle, Elders’ Oliver Mason said there was some hesitation from buyers, wary of the predicted rainfall. “But it was still a very strong sale, with a fair bit of weight in the top end,” Mr Mason said. Corcoran Parker’s Justin Keane agreed the predicted rain had an effect, although the drafts sold “pretty well.” Heavier weaners made the best prices, with A and L Cook, Baddaginnie’s line of 17, 370kilogram Angus steers making $1175. Another draft of 15 Angus heifers, from the same account, made $965.
Other lines offered included two steers, averaging 540kg, a/c G Canny, Killawarra, which sold for $1420.
Lighter steers ranged from nine animals, a/c CM and LT Corker, Myhree, which sold for $1200, to a line of 12, a/c Barclay Pastoral, averaging 439kg, which went for $1290.
Cow and calf units sold for between $1200 (two) a/c JC Partnership, to $1780 (one), a/c Rob Caldwell.
