FARMERS and industry people attended a National Ag Day lunch in Melbourne on Tuesday.
The event was held to celebrate the influence of agriculture on Australian society.
Future Farmers Network executive officer Toby Locke said the idea of meeting in Melbourne was to reach a new demographic.
“We brought young growers together into the city to meet Melbourne media and city people, and to talk about how these beautiful restaurants get their food and product on their plates,” Mr Locke said.
“It’s awesome to be reaching a new demographic, I’m pumped for future years.”
Nadine Verboon, Wattlebank Park Farm, Wonthaggi, said Ag Day is a fantastic initiative to support the farming community.
“To me, Ag Day is about celebrating the farmers that create the food and fibre for everyone in Australia,” Ms Verboon said.
“It’s a really important day for people to recognise farmers from around Australia and across the world.”
Ms Verboon runs dairy, beef, sheep and pigs.
“We direct market all our fresh meats, and have our own line of cheese made from our milk,” she said.
