A GOOD spread of buyers provided competition at last week’s Myrtleford annual spring cattle sale.
Paull and Scollard’s Dan Ivone said three commission buyers were active, among restockers from as far away as Shepparton and Pakenham, as well as locally.
“The steers sat around that 320-380 cents/kilogram, while the heifers made 300-320c/kg,” Mr Ivone said.
“It was all pretty solid, all the vendors were happy enough – the weaners were very good.”
Cow and calf units went into Gippsland, through Rodwells Pakenham, as well as locally and into the north-east.
They averaged $2234, with Adam Fitridge, Whourouly, offering a pen of 10, two and a half year old Angus heifers, to kick off the sale.
The heifers had three to eight week old Angus calves at foot and achieved the top sale price of $2900.
Steers made an average of $1204, with J & P Matheson, Whorouly South, selling the top priced pen of 20 twelve month old Hereford steers for $1440.
C & JA Browne sold the top priced pen of 20 Merriwa blood Angus steers for $1405.
Heifers averaged $999.
T & E Kirk, Barwidgee Creek, had the top priced pen of nine 14 month old Charolais-Angus cross heifers for $1210.
Matt & Mollie Maguire, Havilah, sold the top pen of 22 Angus heifers, 12-13 months, Pinnacle blood, for $1195.
A pen of 18 x 18 composite heifers and calves, by Paringa bulls, with three to six week old Rennylea blood calves at foot, offered by IPB, Havilah sold for $2040.
Penderscourt, Benambra, sold a pen of nine by nine Hereford cross heifers for $2320.
Among the steers, were 12, 12 month old Jade Park Angus cattle, sold by D&H Mummery, Ovens, for $1200.
A/C Walpole also sold 23 Angus weaner steers for $1220.
