Charters Towers combined agents yarded a total of 716 cattle consisting of 333 prime cattle and 383 store cattle on October 18.
The prime cattle consisted of 89 bullocks, 31 heifers, 175 cows and 38 bulls. The store cattle consisted of 210 steers, 161 heifers and 12 cows and calves.
The yard comprised of a rain affected yarding and the anticipation of rain saw numbers reduced. Cattle were made up of mixed quality and a handful of good bullocks and cows. The yarding was drawn from Belyando, Burdekin Dam, Mt Fox, Ingham, Richmond as well as local and coastal areas.
Prime Quotes
Bullocks topped at 259.2c/kg from LA Young that weighed 690kg to return $1788.
Best priced trade heifers were presented by MG & HJ Bredden, which made 233.2c to weigh 393kg and return $917.
The top pen of cows were sold by Lascelles Pastoral Company, for 212c and weighed 505kg to return $1073.
Nine bulls sold by Williams Hillsborough topped at 242.2c and weighed 588kg to return $1424.
Store Quotes
Store cattle consisted of a couple of good lines of steers but overall of mixed quality with numbers down due to predicted wet weather.
A pen of nine steers from Lazy R Brahmans, made 359.2c and weighed 168.9kg and realised $606.
A good pen of heifers from LA Young made 296c, weighed 246kg and returned a good average of $730.
Cows and calves sold on by Hillgrove Pastoral Company, returned $1110.
