WARATAH White Suffolks, Branxholme, has achieved an on-property record, with a $12000 price for one of their rams, this year.
In addition, another seven rams sold to Victorian and South Australian studs, averaging $4000.
Lot three, Waratah 160256, sold for $12000 to Anthony Hurst, Seriston White Suffolks, Lucindale, South Australia. Mr Hurst said the ram would go into the stud’s breeding program.
“I liked his muscle pattern, structural correctness and balance of figures,” Mr Hurst said. “Their sheep have a certain type and have impressed a few other studs, as well.”
The June 2016 drop ram had a birthweight of 0.13 kilograms, weaning weight (WWT) of 11.1kg and a post weaning weight of 18.2kg. It had Australian Sheep Breeding Values, under LAMBPLAN, of a post weaning fat (PFAT) of 0.3mm, a post weaning eye muscle depth (PEMD) of 2.7mm and an intramuscular fat (IMF) of -0.3mm.
Ms Milne said the ram was a long, well put together ram with excellent figures, positive for fat, plenty of muscle and a carcase plus index of 219. “It was a fantastic sale,” she said. “It was great to see strong repeat support from local producers” Ms Milne said.
Among the volume buyers were Kanawalla Pastoral Co, Hamilton, Victoria, who purchased 15 rams, Salamanca Pastoral Co, Hotspur, Victoria (eight rams) and J & J Forsyth, Cavendish, Victoria (seven rams).
LMB Linke’s Bernie Grant said he was very pleased with the way the sale went.
“There were a lot of repeat buyers, chasing all the breeding values Steve and Debbie have been pursuing since they started,” Mr Grant said.
Flock ram buyers put a solid floor in the sale, he said.
Rams went locally, to Cressy, Edenhope and into South Australia.
The sale was conducted by LMB Linke Livestock, Hamilton.
