A large and exciting program is planned for Southern Farming System’s annual AgriFocus Field Days in October, bringing industry experts together in one location to provide updates on seasonal issues and new technologies for southern Victorian growers over two days.

With the potential for another good season ahead, growers will not want to miss this year’s event, which will be held at Westmere in south-west Victoria on October 18 and 19.

The program features presentations from Chris Preston, University of Adelaide on controlling resistant grass weeds; Rob Norton from International Plant Nutrition Institute on nutrition management in a good season; Steve Henry CSIRO with strategies to control mice populations; Graeme Anderson Agriculture Victoria with climate forecasting; SFS variety trials in wheat, barley and canola with managed input strategies;techniques to minimise soil compaction from heavy machinery with the team at Australian Tyre Traders; and FAR Australia will present on Septoria control in wheat.

There will be more than 25 different trial talks on the program each day.

Topics will cover subjects from cultivar disease interactions, herbicide options, pastures species for the rotation, pH and soil acidity implications, soil moisture probes and seasonal nutrition, to the latest in precision agriculture.

Talks will be held multiple times over both days so the program can be individually tailored to suit particular interests. The final timetable of presentations will be released on the SFS website in the coming days at www.sfs.org.au

Sponsors and supporters of SFS will also have product displays to provide networking opportunities with growers, agronomists and industry representatives.

SFS will host a dinner on site at the end of the first day.

Entry to AgriFocus is free for SFS members and students, non-member tickets are $25 for one day and $40 for two days.
