A RAM lamb has taken out supreme exhibit Dorper at the Royal Melbourne Show.
The five month-old was led by year 8 student Ben Caughey, on behalf of Hay War Memorial High School, Hay, NSW, who run the Aberline Dorper and White Dorper stud.
Agriculture teacher James Caughey said the ram lamb had a fantastic carcase.
“He’s got good muscle for his age, he’s structurally correct, and got good neck extension,” Mr Caughey said.
Judge Graeme Hibbard, Deepdene Poll Dorset stud, Narrandera, NSW, said he was a good example of the breed.
“I went for the ram lamb, which might be an interesting choice, but he is very structurally sound, and has plenty of length,” Mr Hibbard said.
Maladorn Dorper stud, Deepdene, took out champion ewe, and was also commended by Mr Hibbard.
“She is very structurally correct, and full of meat,” he said.
Olsen Park Dorper stud, Koondrook, took out reserve champion ewe, and also most successful exhibitor.
