TINTERN Grammar has taken out both champion Romney ram and ewe, at the Royal Melbourne Show on Saturday.
A team of 12 year 8-12 students showed 11 of their Romney sheep, and were all ecstatic to take out the top prizes.
“The Tintern students have been working really hard in the lead up to today, we’ve been running training sessions to improve our skills in junior judging and the training of our sheep,” year 10 student Ashlea Cross said.
“It was a great result to win supreme champion Romney at the show today.”
It was the ram who took out supreme champion Romney, a one year-old who was shown by year 12 student Paige Marshall.
“He has a really good carcase, and really good wool qualities,” Ms Marshall said.
And judge Geoff Turnbull, Black Gate Border Leicester stud, Wycheproof, agreed.
“For a young ram, he’s very good in the wool, and got a good carcase on him,” Mr Turnbull said.
He said the ewe was another standout.
“She’s got a nice lamb on her, and is very well-framed,” he said.
Year 10 student Olivia Cross showed the ewe, with its two week-old lamb at foot, and said she liked her carcase qualities and structure.
