It was a ‘million dollar’ sale when the total clearance of 5200 one and half year first-cross ewes at the annual Spring sale on account Gnadbro Pastoral Co, "Gnadbro", Collingullie achieved an average price of $220 with top price of $270.
This sale is now one of the leading venues for first-cross ewes in southern NSW, and the reputation of the stock by Cadell Border Leicester rams out of station-bred Merino ewes from “Tupra”, Maude, is well known.
The ewes were mulesed and Gudair vaccinated.
The top price at $270 was paid by producer from Corowa for a line of 330 ewes.
Landmark, Wagga Wagga livestock agent, Jarrod Slattery said the sale result was in line with current excellent prices for prime lambs, especially those straight off their mothers, and also the good returns producers are receiving for their older ewes.
“There is a lot of confidence in sheep which could also be reflecting the current state of cropping in the Riverina which is ‘not too flash’,” he said.
“We saw many repeat buyers, but also about 1200 ewes were sold to new buyers which is a good sign the reputation of the stock is spreading.”
Mr Slattery said buyers are attending the sale with confidence knowing they can buy exactly the number they require and because the health status and their breeding is impeccable.
“Producers know these sheep have the right structure and are highly fertile,” he said.
“The entire offering was well presented and although this year’s draft were a bit lighter than last year, it is only because of the dry season across the south and buyers know they will grow out into big ewes.”
Buyers attended from Victorian centers, Warnambool and Shepparton, along with producers from Corowa, Albury, Holbrook and local Riverina districts.
The sale was conducted by Landmark, Wagga Wagga.
