*Total clearance of 26 bulls offered sold to $10,000 (twice), av $6269
LAST Thursday saw Stoney Point hold their third Spring Bull sale at the Clifton Selling complex in Hamilton. With the sun trying to shine through the rain clouds the buying power from South Australia and Victoria bidded up well for the bulls they wanted.
All 26 bulls sold to a top of $10,000 twice to a high average of $6269. This average is a $2799 increase on last year’s average.
The first bull knocked down after rapid fire bidding for the equal top price was Lot 3, Stoney Point Sydgen M815, a 19 month old ET calf by the USA sire Sydgen CC & 7 son and out of Vermont Dream E117, daughter of the well-known Dream Y301.
Repeat buyers Mark & Renee Egel, Roma Downs, Keith, SA, where the successful purchaser of this young sire. This bull was the heaviest bull in the sale draft tipping the scales at 788 kilograms, he had a low birthweight of +3.6 through to a 600 day growth of +106, eye muscle area of +3.3 and +1.3 for Intramuscular fat.
“We went after this bull because of his sire, CC&7, as went don’t currently have this sire line, therefore outcross genetics. He is also a very well put together bull.” Mr Egel said.
The second bull to hit the top price was Lot 19, Stoney Point Mr Money M29, an 18month old Ardrossan Equator A241 son out of a Stoney Point Yankee Queen cow. The Shaw Family of Dunneworthy Pastoral, Ararat, were the successful purchaser of this bull.
Mr Money weighed in at 692kg at his presale weighing with a BW of +4.9 through to +118 for 600 day wt., EMA of +6.1 and an IMF of +1.4.
“A241 is a proven sire, so we purchased this son to be able to breed our replacement females, with added frame. He ticked all of our boxes for what we wanted and needed in a new sire.” Mr Shaw said.
Dunneworthy Pastoral also purchased Lot 15.
There were many volume buyers on the day, with first time buyer Bobby Mann, Furneaux Pastoral, Caramut, purchasing 4 bulls to a top of $8500 to average $7500.
“We are a first time buyer here, but where in the market for new bulls for my next joining. I was able to get good replacement bulls but also bulls that will bring in new genetics.” Mr Mann said.
Other volume buyers where LK Earthmoving, Hamilton, with four bulls to average $4500, S & K Higgs, Kongorong with three bulls to average $7300 and Amherst Livestock, Keith with three bulls to average $4300.
Stoney Point’s Peter Colliver said he was extremely happy with the sale result.
“We think the line-up of bulls were the best that we have presented.”
