Friends, family and industry mentors celebrated the 2017 Australian Livestock & Property Agents Association (ALPA) Victorian Young Auctioneers Competition with a dinner on the event's eve at Novotel on Collins in Melbourne.
The 10 finalists were each presented with a gavel.
Other notable actions was the announcement that Rob Bolton, livestock manager at Rodwells, would be retiring from his involvement with ALPA.
Mr Bolton said he would continue on as a consultant in the industry.
“In my almost 50 years in the industry, one of the great parts has been my involvement in ALPA,” he said.
Mr Bolton was at the inaugural ALPA meeting and has been a big part of the organisation since. He has also been a very active mentor of livestock agents and auctioneers.
“When I started in the industry, some people took a real interest in me, and in the last half of my working life, I’ve tried to give something back to the industry.”
The about 100 people present helped to raise more than $6000 for The John Logan Foundation, which financially supports people living with cancer throughout Australia by contributing towards prescribed treatments not available on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS).
The total raised at the 2017 ALPA Young Auctioneers Competition totalled more than $18,000, with the generous donations continuing at the competition the day after the dinner.
In fact, through ALPA’s Young Auctioneers Competitions in NSW, Queensland and Victoria this year, and their associated dinners, $46,502 has been raised for the John Logan Foundation.
