The best young auctioneers from across Victoria will travel to the Victorian Livestock Exchange (VLE) in Pakenham&nbsp;to compete in the 2017 Australian Livestock &amp; Property Agents Association (ALPA) Victorian Young Auctioneers Competition. Check out a gallery of the finalists with descriptions about their experience so far, below. The competition will begin at 10.30am on Monday, September 11, and will be&nbsp;live-streamed with the support of&nbsp;Stock &amp; Land&nbsp;and RMA Network.

The best young auctioneers from across Victoria will travel to the Victorian Livestock Exchange (VLE) in Pakenham&nbsp;to compete in the 2017 Australian Livestock &amp; Property Agents Association (ALPA) Victorian Young Auctioneers Competition.

TOM DAVIES, RODWELLS & CO: Tom, 18, has been in the industry for eight months. He sells sheep, cattle and clearing sale items weekly in Wangaratta. Tom holds his Certificate III in Agriculture and hopes to be the best auctioneer and stock agent he can be. He considers auctioneering, meeting new people and travelling to new places the highlights of his job. Tom enjoys football, campdrafting, hunting, fishing and motorbike riding.

MATT JONES, ELDERS: Matt, 24, has been in the industry for two years. He sells at the weekly cattle sale and at the monthly store sale at the South West Victorian Livestock Exchange, Warrnambool. Matt holds his Bachelor of Rural Science, Certificate III in Agriculture and Wool Classers Certificate. He hopes to expand his business, become a well–respected agent, and establish himself as a Senior Livestock Production Advisor. His favourite aspects of the job are interacting with his clients and reaching the best price for their livestock. Matt enjoys campdrafting and breeding and training working Kelpies.

TIM GIBSON, ALEX SCOTT & STAFF: Tim, 24, has been in the industry for four years and sells cattle weekly and occasionally sheep, goats and pigs in Pakenham. He holds his Certificate I and II in Agriculture and hopes to continue to sell, expand his client base and to buy his own farm in the future. Tim enjoys the sense of accomplishment after a big day’s work whether it be selling, marking calves or assisting his clients any way he can. Tim also enjoys the travel aspect of his job and outside work his interests are football and skiing. 

LACHLAN McALLISTER, ELDERS: Lachlan, 24, has been in the industry for six years and has been selling for three years. He sells sheep weekly at the Bendigo Livestock Exchange and holds his Certificate IV in Agriculture and Animal Health. Lachlan plans to create a business within Elders, Bendigo and to further his auctioneering. He believes the highlights of his job are helping his clients and auctioneering. Lachlan enjoys football, cricket and training working dogs.

JOE ALLEN, ELDERS: Joe, 21, has been in the industry for eighteen months. He sells cattle and sheep weekly in Euroa, Shepparton, and Yea and holds his Certificate II in Agriculture. Joe hopes to continue to develop as an agent/auctioneer to better serve his clients. His favourite parts of the job are visiting farms, working with his clients and their livestock. His interests outside of work include farming, camping, music, friends and sport.

NICK FARLEY, LANDMARK: Nick, 21, has been in the industry for two years and sells sheep and cattle weekly in Bendigo. He holds his Certificate II in Agriculture. Nick plans to continue building relationships with his clients and expanding his clientele. He enjoys achieving good results for his clients. Nick’s interests include cricket, football, hunting and helping on the family Border Leicester stud at Kerang.

PAT McKINNON, HF RICHARDSON & CO: Pat, 21, has been in the industry for three years. He sells bulls and clearing sale items in Ballarat and is a Level 3 AuctionsPlus Assessor of sheep. Pat would like to continue to learn new skills in auctioneering and the agency business so that he can provide an excellent service to new and existing clients. He enjoys auctioneering and communicating with clients, buyers and fellow agents. Pat’s interests outside of work include fishing, surfing, playing football at Newlyn Football Club and spending time with family and friends.

MATT ROWLANDS, BR & C AGENTS: Matt, 22, has been in the industry for two years. He sells sheep and cattle weekly at the Ouyen and Swan Hill saleyards. Matt holds his Stock and Station Agent Licence and Certificate III and IV in Agriculture. He plans to continue building professional relationships with buyers and clients to increase his client’s growth, profitability and potential in the industry. Matt enjoys helping his clients succeed and likes that every day is different. His interests outside of work include fishing, shooting and spending time with family and friends.

ZAC VAN WEGEN, KERR & CO LIVESTOCK: Zac, 22, has been in the industry for six years. He sells sheep and cattle weekly at the Hamilton Livestock Exchange and is an AuctionsPlus Assessor. Zac hopes to buy a house in Hamilton and to continue to grow his business. His favourite parts of the job are auctioneering and selling livestock on AuctionsPlus. Zac enjoys travelling, fishing and football. 

MURRAY BENNETT, LANDMARK: Murray, 25, has been selling for three years. He sells export, trade and store cattle weekly in Wangaratta. Murray is a qualified wool classer and holds his Diploma of Agriculture. He hopes to continue working as a livestock agent and to grow his business. Murray enjoys achieving good results for his clients and meeting new people. Outside of work, Murray likes working on the family property and spending time with friends.

The competition will begin at 10.30am on Monday, September 11, and will be&nbsp;<a href="http://www.stockandland.com.au/beef/ALPA-livestream/">live-streamed</a> with the support of&nbsp;<i>Stock &amp; Land</i>&nbsp;and RMA Network.
