SCANNED in lamb crossbred ewe lambs made to $240, and those unjoined to $212 a head amid a subdued inquiry for store sheep at Wycheproof on Friday.
The market, which was conducted in warm sunny conditions following a series of generous late July and August rain, attracted buyers mostly from Western Victoria and included some South Australian competition.
In the Merino section, a line of WA-bred young ewes, not station mated and bearing a fully fleece made $227 while other pens of unjoined young ewes that were more recently shorn made $162 to $180.
A single line of Merino ewes, aged four years with 100 percent lambs at foot, also commanded a price of $212 per outfit.
A large than normal display of station-bred wethers was well received with wool growers victorious on the more highly fancied lines. These were sold from $101 to a best of $115 while a yard of crossbred wether lambs, unshorn, made $114.
The market of 6000 was conducted by Elders Rural Services, Wycheproof and northwest branches.
