Charters Towers Combined Agents yarded a total of 1776 cattle on July 26, consisting of 1141 prime cattle and 635 store cattle.
The prime cattle consisted of 113 bullocks, 33 heifers, 909 cows and 86 bulls, while the store cattle yarded consisted of 292 steers, 295 heifers and 48 x 44 cows and calves.
Prime cattle comprised of mostly cows with well finished types receiving good competition. Competition was well supported from meat works, feedlotters, butchers and exporters this week.
The yarding was drawn from Normanton, Croyden, Georgetown, Einasleigh, Cloncurry, Hughenden, local and coastal areas.
Bullocks were quoted 5-10c easier, heifers were unchanged and heavy cows were 2-4c dearer with lighter cows improving up to 20c on last week’s rates.
Prime quotes saw bullocks topped at 255c/kg for Brahman sold on account of D & I McDowall that weighed 650kg to return $1657 per head.
Best priced Trade Heifers were presented on a/c Ken Peace which made 266¢/kg to weigh 465kg and return $1237 per head.
The top pen of cows were sold by Pajingo Pastoral Co, Pajingo, Charters Towers for 223c/kg and weighed 602kg to return $1345 per head.
Bulls sold on behalf of RC Flute, Chatfield, Richmond topped at 268c/kg and weighed 850kg to return $2279 per head.
Store cattle were of mixed quality with limited lines of better quality steers and heifers. Cattle presented sold to reduced values on the plainer and lesser quality types however good quality cattle sold to spirited bidding with rates similar to last week.
A pen of Brahman steers on account of SK & KJ Jameson made 374c/kg and weighed 138kg and realised $518 per head.
A good pen of Brahman heifers on behalf of EJ Mathews, Monarch View, Charters Towers made 340c/kg, weighed 227kg and returned a good average of $773 per head.
Cows and calves sold on account of Green Hills Cattle Co, returned $1300 per unit.
