Champion and reserve champion ewe – Clarendon, Strathbogie
A DEDICATED supporter of the Shropshire breed, Marilyn Mangione, Clarendon stud, Strathbogie, exhibited the champion ewe which went on to be judged supreme for the breed by judge James Bond, Turpoint, Cornwall, UK.
The two year old ewe, who is on the point of lambing has never been beaten at shows and Ms Magione considered her one of the best ewes she has bred.
“There is just so much muscle down her back leg,” she said.
“And her short thick ears are the telltale sign of the true Shropshire breed.”
The 11 month-old champion ram was also shown by Ms Magione.
Mr Bond, a sheep breeder from Cornwall, UK, was clearly impressed with the quality of the breed paraded before him.
“They are very attractive line of sheep and similar to what we have at home,” he said.
“I have given the supreme ribbon to the ewe because she is very well grown and being in lamb is obviously fulfilling her duties,” he said.
“She is well covered with a good fleece and her structure is quite neat and correct.
“The ram being younger is not as big, but he still a very good example for the breed.
“His fleece is very good and I think he will grow into a very good ram.”
Ms Mangione started her stud in 2002.
