Recent rain across the border region saw a bigger yarding of about 2700 head at the Wodonga store cattle sale last Thursday.
Heifers were highly sought after by the large crowd and cows with calves were popular with prices holding strong throughout.
Weaner steers ranged from $700 to $1325 and weaner heifers sold from $650-$1280. Grown steers sold from $770-$1590.
Prices for cows with calves sold from $1540-$2280 and pregnancy-tested-in-calf (PTIC) cows ranged from $1030-$1230.
Top price was for six cows with four- to eight week-old calves by Birubi Jetmaster. They were from Brian Lane Bruarong Limousins, Bruarong, and sold for $2280. The lot was part of their on going dispersal of their Limousin stud.
A pen of 22 grown steers weighing 535 kilograms from Rannoch, Merrijig, topped the steer market at $1580. Weaner steers topped at $1325 for 12 Angus steers from the Garoni family, Jezza’s Angus, Dederang. Ben Teek, Stonroy, Noorongong, sold 17 Hereford steers of Wirruna blood for $1230.
Corcoran and Parker agent Kevin Corcoran, Wodonga, said the sale held strong for the time of year and were in line with other sales.
“The cows with calves section were nice quality and sold really well, and the joined females sold at a reasonable price,” Mr Corcoran said. “The steers tended to be on the cheaper side coming off the peak of autumn, they have come down 10 to 20 cents a kilogram (liveweight), which was expected really.”
