THIEVES have stolen firearms and other items worth a total $25,000 from an unoccupied rural property near Horsham.
Detective Sergeant Stephen Walker, of the Horsham Criminal Investigation Unit, implored people to follow police advice regarding the storage of firearms.
“Firearms should not be kept at houses that are not occupied and certainly not kept in farm sheds because of their remote nature,” he said.
“It gives the criminals plenty of time to break into even the most secure safes.
“In some instances, we have heard of these criminals removing the safes from the property.”
Detective Sergeant Walker said three Rimfire rifles and an air rifle were taken from a locked safe on the property.
Jewellery, clothing, electrical equipment, a drone and a remote-controlled car were also taken, he said.
Police believe the theft occurred late last week.
Detective Sergeant Walker said people with information should phone Horsham police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
