Australia's largest milk processor, Murray Goulburn (MG) has announced it will no longer accept excess seasonal milk, from other processors, during October to December.
MG’s supplier relations director Cameron Smith has told farmers, the closure of three processing sites has meant it would be “optimising its manufacturing footprint”, when it came to intake.
“As a result, we have today taken the precaution of notifying all Victorian milk processing companies that at this stage MG does not intend to process any future surplus seasonal milk,” Mr Smith said.
“As this is a role we have played in the past, we consider notifying processors of this change in advance of the season is appropriate in order to inform their manufacturing planning.”
He said MG had adequate capacity to process its existing suppliers’ seasonal milk.
“We also remain fully committed to receiving and processing our suppliers’ milk throughout the season and can extend this offer to eligible new or returning suppliers,” Mr Smith said.
