A good recovery was staged by Queensland across the board, while NSW was disappointing – no, not in State of Origin, although the phrase fits there too.
Despite the national indicators posting largely flat results, with weekly moves of less than 2 per cent either way, some state-based indicators had more substantial action. The Eastern Young Cattle Indicator mirrored the national indicators with a retracement of 1.3 per cent, to close at 633.25¢/kg cwt.
Queensland winners included trade steers, up 13 per cent to 336¢/kg lwt. NSW saleyard indicators were all softer, with falls from 1-3 per cent. It was a mixed bag for Victoria, with feeder steers down 3 per cent to 325¢/kg lwt and medium steers up 5.7 per cent to 315¢/kg.
Increased weekly throughput was a potential reason for the broad price falls in NSW.
