PROCESSORS and restockers competed for a small yarding of 5500 sheep at Jamestown on Thursday.
Topping the market was TG Markey, Peterborough, who sold 150 June/July 2015-drop, March-shorn, Baderloo-blood ewes which sold at $162.
Landmark Jamestown livestock agent Shannon Jaeschke said the demand for sheep was subdued due to previous markets and the ongoing dry conditions across the state.
“The market was cheaper than previous markets, but the quality of the sheep was not there that we had in the previous markets either,” he said.
GK Coleman, Jamestown, sold 86, three to seven-year-old, March-shorn, East Bungaree-bloods for $150, which had run with a White Suffolk ram.
They also sold 26 July/August 2016-drop, March-shorn, North Ashbrose-bld, ewes, scanned in-lamb to a White Suffolk ram, at $138.
Mr Jaeschke said one of the features from the sale was RN Bailey & Co’s, Peterborough, run of 768 July/August 2016-drop Merino wether lambs, selling to $110.
South Gap Pastoral, via Port Augusta, offered 450 June/July 2016-drop Merino wethers selling at $116.
Elders Jamestown livestock manager Jack Coleman believed the prices were not a true representation of the present market.
There were only a small amount of SIL breeding ewes offered, with the majority not having run with a ram or being scanned undetectable.
In the lamb section, Chilba Pastoral, Streaky Bay, sold 136 October 2016-drop May-shorn crossbred lambs for $120.
IR&KB Jaeschke, Appila, sold 15, 2016-drop May-shorn crossbred lambs for $120.
The next Jamestown sale is on July 20.
