A MAN has been charged after an armed robbery at Abermain Bowling Club on Monday night.

A female employee of the club was allegedly tied up with duct tape before a safe was accessed and emptied.

Police said on Wednesday they had arrested a 35-year-old after stopping a vehicle on Victory Parade in Jesmond.

He was later charged with armed robbery, damage property by fire, larceny and drive while disqualified.

Police said the larceny charge relates to a stealing incident at a hardware store at Taylors Beach on June 11.

The man was refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court on Wednesday.

Police investigations continue.
