With wool and lamb prices simmering at near boiling point a quality selection of 16-drop wethers also met strong demand at Wycheproof.
Butcher inquiry was led by Ryan’s, Nathalia and Midfield, Warrnambool while northern restockers were keen for a toe hold in the wether market, with plenty of fresh autumn-grown grass begging stock.
The leading sale, made at $149, was a spring-shorn line of 235 Oakbank-blood wethers submitted to the market by R&N Comer, Drummartin.
These were claimed by Elders Charlton while two further 16-drop lots were cleared $141 a head. The first was sold by GW, KM & LJ Lanyon - a November-shorn, Woodpark-blood lot of 149 and then GA McDonald cleared a January shorn line of 180, Nyowie-blood.
Other wether lambs to fetch prices beyond $125 were: Bushy Lodge – March-shorn, Willandra-blood sold at $138; WE & VE Rodger –February-shorn, Charinga-blood, $133 while Trealla Farms sold an April-shorn, Sohnic-blood pen at $126.
