Yea’s monthly store cattle sale on Friday was a “fraction softer” in some categories compared to other recent sales.
That’s according to Bruce Elliot, Elders, who said good Angus weaners sold very well at firm rates, but bigger steers and heifers, and the few cows and calf units penned, might have been a little bit softer.
He said backgrounders, local restockers were most active in bidding in the about 1800-head yarding, but there was very limited feedlot competition.
He said Elders’ clients’ weaners made up to $1400. Mr Elliot said a pen of big black baldy steers sold for $1520/head.
He said well-bred Angus weaners, without much weight, averaged about $1150-$1250.
“Those cattle’s prices were very firm,” Mr Elliot said.
Landmark’s Chris Pollard said their clients’ highlights included account Callandoon’s pen of 17 Angus and black baldy steers, 8-9 months, made $1240 a head, and their second pen of nine Charolais, same age, sold for $1140.
Account Bridon’s top 15 Charolais-cross steers, 8-9 months, made $1200 and their second pen of 15 sold for $1100.
Berdue Pastoral Co sold a pen of 40 Angus steers, August/September drop, weaned, Team Te Mania blood, for $1100.
Havelock Ag’s 13 Charolais heifers were knocked down for $1310 and CK Oliver’s 13 Angus heifers made $1250.
Mr Elliot said other heifer highlights included Charolais heifers, 14-15 months-old, making $1290; and Angus heifers, suitable to join, making $1190.
He said smaller heifers made $900-$1000.
