Victorian grain farmers are rejoicing after receiving a general 20-50mm of rain in the last week, and more expected.
The soaking signalled the traditional autumn break which allows farmers to progress with winter crop planting. Unlike the previous week, this rain delivered its heaviest falls across the major grain regions.
Mallee farmers received a general 30-50mm, with parts recording more than 80mm.
Lighter falls were recorded across the Wimmera and Central Victoria, but enough to allow for a general start to planting. Most of the Wimmera received 20-30mm, with similar amounts extending through Central Victoria and into the North East cropping areas.
While Victorian farmers recorded good rain, it failed to penetrate north of the Murray River.
