It was by far the best sale ever for Panshanger Estate since beginning its annual production sales on Auctions Plus some 20 years ago.
Overall its catalogue of 299 head of pure Lawson-blood Angus cows, pregnancy tested in calf for a July to September calving, made to $2020 a head for a sale average of $1919/head.
Facilitating agent Ian Richards, Ian Richards Livestock, Launceston said repeat buyers purchased more than half the lots offered.
Mainland buyers from South Australia, Wangaratta, Ballarat and Woodend secured the lions share of 18 lots listed while Tasmanian operators from Flinders Island, East Tamar and Dysart purchased the balance.
Mr Richards said the Panshanger listing drew 88 logged in bidders and guests to the electronic auction platform of which 10 were active bidders.
Prices achieved were $368 a head higher than the year earlier sale which also drew strong interstate support.
The Panshanger herd is farmed at Scopus near Smithton on Tasmania’s northwest coast by George Mills and family.
