With 45 years of breeding behind them the Lucas family’s Reiland Angus continue to produce a uniform article that performs for clientele.
Strong repeat support saw Reiland Angus autumn bull sale held on property “Killimicat”, Tumut, last Wednesday average a respectable $7515 on the 65 bulls offered and sold with a top-price of $18,000 reached twice.
The sale was opened by Dr Rick Tindal, Holbrook, who has worked with the Lucas family over a number of years and applauded Reiland Angus’ uniformity of cattle offered and their focus on economic traits that drive commercial profitability such as fertility and days to calving.
It was the return buyers that snapped up the top-end with Hopewood Pastoral, Coolac, and Houston Pastoral, Wodonga, paying $18,000 for equal top-price bulls Reiland Lancefield L934 with intra-muscular fat (IMF) in the top one per cent of Angus Breedplan and Heavy Grain Index and Carcase Weight in top 2pc and Reiland Locke L746 a Reiland Horton H958 son respectively.
Houston Pastoral continued on the top bulls with Reiland Longford L1008 a Sydgen Black Pearl son for $16,500 and Reiland Lenny L484 and Reiland Luck L751 both at $13,000.
Houston purchased 12 bulls in total for their Upper Murray enterprise for a $12,000 average.
While Hopewood Pastoral secured four in total to average $9875.
D and A Walmsley, Tarcutta, also parted with $13,000 for Reiland Lindley L1036 who was recorded in the top 1pc for scrotal size and retail beef yeild (RBY), and added a second sire later for $4000.
Mt Hugel Pastoral, Adelong, were again among the volume buyers and bought right taking home five bulls for a $5900 average.
Coolong Pastoral, “Deltroit”, Adelong, averaged $6833 for their draft of six bulls.
Ballandry Pastoral, Strath Creek, Victoria, took home four bulls to average $6375.
While Kalkite Pastoral, “Woodford”, Crookwell, parted with an average price of $6250 for their four.
Strong support from return clientele was compliment by a couple of new buyers to Killimicat station.
The sale was conducted by Elders Rural Services, Tumut, with Michael Glasser, Wodonga, the auctioneer.
