The livestock transporters have lodged a notice of intention with National Heavy Vehicle Regulator to register an industry code of practice for the managing effluent in the livestock supply chain.
ALTRA proposes that the code will cover: the preparation of livestock prior to transport, minimizing the risk of effluent escape in transit, roadside disposal facilities for vehicles in transit, end of trip disposal facilities and truck washes, and communication throughout the supply chain.
Development of a code is a significant process involving technical research, risk assessment, identification of appropriate controls and consultation across the supply chain.
It is proposed the code become operational by January 1, 2019.
