The SA Sheep Expo continues to grow in popularity, with nearly 70 youth from across SA, Vic and NSW converging on the Adelaide Showground this week.
Year 12 Nuriootpa High School student Stefan Grossman is one of the 12 to 23-year-old entrants looking to gain more knowledge about sheep and wool.
He was the recipient of an Angaston Agricultural Bureau student bursaries, having his entry fee subsidised.
The event, in its second year, includes lectures and practical sessions on pastures, nutrition, pregnancy scanning, condition scoring of ewes and junior judging.
It concludes with the handler judging tomorrow.
Expo chairman Stephen Kellock is pleased with entrant numbers and says the event has received tremendous sponsorship.
“We need to encourage as many young people into the sheep industry in all directions as we can – whether it be a stock agent, a banker or a breeder,” he said.
The highest achiever in the senior section will win a study tour of New Zealand.
