Friday’s ordinary store cattle sale at Bairnsdale featured 2943 mostly well bred cattle, showing the signs of a hard summer – in other words, well bred mostly young cattle in plain condition.
Their condition did not affect prices; pens of six month-old calves sold for more than $1000/head.
Competition was led by one buyer, representing a number of clients, bidding for young Angus cattle to background.
A number of other grass finishers and backgrounders from South, Central and West Gippsland nipped at his heels, picking up mostly older or other British-breed cattle.
