30 of 32 bulls sold to $18,000, av $8683
LINDSAY Murray Greys’ focus on producing quality, market-relevant beef cattle was vindicated in an outstanding result for the stud last Tuesday week with cattle selling to six states.
The stud realised a record top price and average in its 37-year history.
Thirty of 32 bulls sold at auction for an average of $8683.
Top price honours went to lot 1, Lindsay Leader L11 who was purchased by a Tasmanian syndicate of Cam Grove Murray Greys, Central Coast Murray Greys and Elburn Murray Greys through Atkins Livestock for $18,000. Leader, an impressive, soft grey bull was sold with a quarter share retained at Lindsay and the top growth value for 600-day weight for 2015 drop bulls in the breed, coupled with a birth weight of 4.4, slightly above breed average.
Larussa Assets, Western Australia, purchased three bulls through Landmark to a top of $13,500 for Lot 15 Lindsay Locket L26.
Long-time clients Cavanagh Partners, Tintinara, South Australia, purchased three bulls, av $10,500 through Elders Keith. Phoines Pastoral, Casterton, also bought three bulls to a top of $11,000, through Landmark Casterton.
Lindsay principal Craig Grant said it was also pleasing 13 bulls sold for $4000-$7000.
“It is critical for our long term survival that we cater for all of our clients and their requirements,” he said.
There was a total clearance of eight stud heifers, which reached $5750 twice, av $3937.50. The top-priced heifers were purchased by RD&DA Kidd, Malanda, Qld, and Bob Kerr, Quesera Murray Greys, Tas. Neil and Jo Carr picked up Lots 35 and 38 for $3000 as foundation females for their herd at Woodside, SA.
The 26 PTIC commercial heifers also met strong competition, selling to $2800 for seven rising 2.5 year-old silver heifers, with an av of $2729.
Landmark Casterton and Elders Casterton conducted the sale.
