The name Ah Sam has been known in the high country for many years. Bert (Albert), and Brendan, AJ&BJ Ah Sam, Omeo, will be offering 230 Hereford and Hereford-Shorthorn steers and heifers in the Elders Omeo, Hereford sale, Wednesday, March 15.
Being an afternoon sale, following on from Ensay, Elders will not start until enough time has elapsed for buyers to travel the half hour to Omeo.
Happy and content, these "strawberry roan" Hereford-Shorthorn heifers look in very good condition during the weaning process.
Widely accepted as future mothers, the Ah Sam Hereford-Shorthorn heifers always sell to very strong competition.
Being EU accredited can aid competition at times, and being weaned, and in good condition, these April-May drop calves will present very well. Potential buyers can bid for the Ah Sam calves that have had 2x5-in-1 and drenched twice, the 2nd time in December. Brendan said the extended winter was difficult, but a late spring has put a top on their calves.
AJ&BJ Ah Sam is a name not only known for these heifers, but their steers, both Hereford and the Shorthorn cross steers, attract very strong competition from numerous repeat buyers.
While the Hereford-Shorthorn do look magnificent grazing a front paddock, the Ah Sam steers are renown for there ability to pile on the weight.
It is hard to beat a Gippsland buyer to these steers, as past performances speak for themselves. These are definitely front lane steers and will sell to processor, feedlot and restocker demand.
Mind you, if you do intend to have a bid for the Ah Sam steers, and/or heifers, make sure you get your position early, as on sale day, space is at a premium.
Brendan Ah Sam was very complimentary of the season at Omeo, which has given their farm a good sole of summer feed.
At the time this photo was taken, these 230 weaned calves were drafted into steers and heifers, which creates ease of farming.
