Benambra has been our life, and age makes no bearing on our decision to keep farming here, according to Russell and Merrilyn Pendergast.
"From our stockyard we can see most of our property, and some of the neighbours too,” Mr Pendergast said.
"While our farm drops away from the yards and house, it is by no means steep, and is easily managed.”
Russell and Merrilyn Pendergast have a very good cow herd which is based on Mawarra bloodlines to add size and growth to their females.
Over these they use Sugarloaf Hereford bulls to add further quality to produce these high quality steer and heifer calves.
Selling 70 mixed sex calves at Benambra, Tuesday afternoon, March 14, will give potential buyers some quality weaned steers and heifers to purchase.
The high country properties of Benambra, Omeo, Ensay & Swifts Creek, are one of a few larger districts to continue to breed Hereford cattle, in larger numbers.
This brings competition to these annual Elders sales, and this includes, bullock and steer fatteners, breeders, and heifer fatteners too.
Spending years improving the breeding of their herd has produced great, even lines of calves that will add to any buyers measures of weight gain, and presentation when re-selling them.
Likewise, their heifers would make great mothers, if that be the buyers choice.
