Prices for joined Angus heifers spiked to a season’s high of $3275 a head at Ballarat annual female cattle sale on Friday.
The recipients of this exceptional money were regular suppliers, Basil and Shane Maher, Golden Grove, Newlyn selling a yard of 10 Franc Angus-blood heifers, calving to low birth weight Langi Kal Kal Angus bulls from March-17 for eight weeks.
Golden Grove prepared a total of 60 PTIC Angus heifers for this year special feature: heifers they had purchased as weaners from this same sale one year earlier.
Four further sales of joined Angus heifers on the day also enjoyed sales of $3000 a head or higher including Corrections Victoria’s yard of 12 Langi Kal Kal Angus heifers also calving March to low birth weight Langi Kal Kal Angus bulls.
The 3500-head sale was exceptionally well attended, and it produced other strong sales to $2875 for cows with calves at foot, to $1620 for grown heifers and to $1500 a head for weaner heifers.
