BAIRNSDALE agents offered their successive yarding of nearly 2500 head last Friday. While the offering was a little plainer in condition, it was another great yarding for producers to buy.
Heavy yearling steers did sell to weaker trends with heavy yearlings selling between $1540 and $1670. A Dalley sold 23 Angus steers creating this range with Hollingsworth Logging selling 11 Angus steers for $1640. These heavy steers ranged from 320-335 cents per kilograms liveweight.
Pressure was on for younger steers of all beef breeds. Prices here were generally unchanged, although there was some chances for producers to purchase at cheaper rates throughout the whole sale.
PR Henderson Farms sold Hereford steers, which were 12 months and 16 months of age. These sold from $1530-$1600 for the yearlings, and $1280 for the younger calves.
Richardson Farms sold 40 Angus and Charolais-Angus steers from $1250-$1370, or 380-422c/kg lwt. There were many sales noted in this liveweight price bracket.
Black Mountain Station, Wolgulmerang, sold 59 Angus steers from $1140-$1390. K Bryant sold 10 Charolais steers for $1310, and K&M Bride, 50 young Hereford steers from $935-$1045.
While most of the large crowd came from all Gippsland districts, some feedlot buyers did make purchases. The weather was a lot cooler at Bairnsdale than at other saleyards, and the crowd followed most of the sale.
This market was one of only a few that offered a good percentage of heifers, both yearlings and younger heifers. A small consignment of fat yearling heifers sold for $1410, but most heifers sold for $850-$1380.
A Murdoch, Bibbenluke, sent 65 yearling Angus heifers that sold for $1010-$1380 was a great result. The price pen equalled 384c/kg, thanks to breeder competition.
Richardson Farms sold 55 Angus and Charolais-Angus heifers for $1080-$1150, and N Henderson sold 20 Charolais-Hereford heifers for $1100. Strong demand for feeder heifers saw many of these heifers equal 360-370c/kg lwt.
Nungatta Station sold a large run of 76 Angus heifers with some European breed influence, from $900-$1220.
PTIC heifers and cows don’t usually make these regular store sales, but CA&SM Commins, sold 20 Hereford cows, 3-7 years, PTIC to Nunniong Hereford bulls, for $1300. Competition for cows and calves was very scattered, as was the quality and condition of the outfits. Prices ranged mostly from $1500-$2740, the highest price being for two very heavy cows with near full term, fat calves at foot (CAF).
H Chippindal sold nine Hereford-Friesian heifers with young Charolais CAF for $2180.
