THE Lush family sold 71 May/June 2016-drop Shorthorns at Strathalbyn on Friday as part of an annual sell off.
Corriedale Hills owner Brenton Lush, Inman Valley and Waitpinga, said the same offering was sold before Christmas last year, but this year feed had been plentiful.
“It just keeps raining,” he said. “We had about 25 millimetres again last night (Thursday last week).”
The first pen of 18 weaned steers, averaging 335 kilograms, made $1250 or $3.73/kg to Princess Royal.
Another pen of 21 at 271kg made $1120 or $4.13/kg, while six unweighed lighter steers made $990.
Corriedale Hills heifers, 13 av 283kg, made $910 or $3.21/kg, while 13 av 244kg sold for $820 or $3.36/kg.
In the heifer section, AE&DW Ellis, Strathalbyn, made the top dollar rate of $1290, or $3.78/kg, for five March/April 2016-drop Angus-crosses, 382kg, sold to TFI, while Allan Manning, Woodside, sold five Angus, 356kg, at $1230 or $3.45/kg.
PJ&SE Dawson, Hope Forest, sold 10 Angus heifers, 364kg, at $1190 or $3.27/kg to Kangarilla Meats, while their 21 Angus-Simmental heifers, 296kg, made $1100 or $3.72/kg.
In kilogram prices, RB&SA Talbot, KI, sold 15 June 2016-drop Angus heifers, 269kg, at $1020 or $3.79/kg; North Coast Pastoral, KI, sold 21 Angus heifers, 304kg, at $1150 or $3.78/kg; while FJ&KJ Smith, Strathalbyn, sold 11 Angus heifers, 259kg, at $980 or $3.78/kg.
