The wool market has started with a bang, with prices being significantly higher than before Christmas.
Woolgrowers have been consigning bales to sell while the market is hot.
The Melbourne Wool Selling Centre vendors’ car park was full today, as woolgrowers from throughout the state came to watch their bales sell.
As Arcadian Wool’s Ian Shawcross said; “It’s like the old days.”
According to the AWEX report, better types (stylish/40nkt) in the ultrafine range of 15/16/17 microns continued to find good support and remained firm.
Elsewhere prices were generally 20 to 30 cents clean cheaper, mainly for 28nkt to 35nkt types and for most microns – although those prices are coming of steep increases in the New Year.
The size of the falls increased towards the broader microns.
Merino Skirtings were 20 to 30 cents cheaper, best style/length least affected, particularly in the finer microns (16/17/18).
In the crossbred offering, either end of the micron spectrum (25 & 32) were 10 to 20 cents cheaper, others par to 10 cents cheaper.
