Charlie and Jenny Veevers, “Deepdale”, Tallarook, were more than excited, and gratified, with the prices they received for their pens of steers at the first day of the NVLX young cattle sales today.
Their first pen of 31 steers with an average weight of 262 kg, reached $1190 per head.
The second pen of 59 head with an average weight of 313kg were pushed to $1300 per head, a live-weight price of $4.15 per kg.
“We rely heavily on the expertise of Steve Clarke (Livestock) who advises us on our pastures and cattle, as we have been only hobby farmers for the past 42 years”, Mr Veevers smiled.
The smiles continued, and expanded, when their third pen of 13 seven-month old steers with an average weight of 232 kg sold for $955 per head.
“We are very satisfied, and grateful, for the prices our cattle made, and I know there are some disappointed losing bidders out there. We will be back next year”, Mr Veevers concluded.
