Northeast cattle buyers were the dominant force along with Gippsland, the Riverina and Goulburn and Murray Valley buyers at the annual Euroa weaner sale held Wednesday.
Kicking off the Victorian leg of the 2016-17 weaner selling season, a market pitched on 360-420 cents a kilogram sold the majority of the 2800 head offered which were predominantly lines of autumn-drop Angus.
The sale was, for the first time, interfaced through the Auctions Plus internet platform which over the course of the sale purchased no cattle and had minimal influence on the outcome of the market as the momentum flowed with the on-site field of buyers.
A market top of $1560 a head was realised for the opening pen of the day, a yard of 422kg Angus, aged 9-10 months, offered by Marjorie King of Balmattum.
Richard McGeegan and Sue Gall, sold the first of their Flowerdale draft of Angus steers, 417kg at the sale next best price of $1510 while Yandra sold 21 Angus 375kg, at $1505 to be among an elite handful of sales to top the $1500 a head mark.
A flurry of sales were then completed in the $1360- $1480 a head price bracket for pens mostly weighed in the 330-380kg range as the sale develop into a steady exchange of price relative to demand.
