Another year in the Industry is quickly closing in as there is a full on run on lamb at the moment in Lower south east and Hamilton in western Victoria.
The cattle market has softened slightly for the slaughter and feedlot portion but the restockers are still paying top rates for replacement stock and some seem to be “fearless” with their purchases. Let’s hope it all holds as some of these small calves look extreme. It won’t be long now until the western district weaner calf sales kick off...
Saleyards are full to capacity and the roads are busy with B Doubles carting lambs to the works. It is all holding up well considering the numbers in the system.
The mutton market is holding as well as processors are keen to secure.
The off shear and auctions plus sales of young ewes are also going well with graziers looking to secure replacement stock due to the excellent season in the South.

The Northern restockers will be down South in force competing with the local restockers, which all points to a good result for the vendors.
Cows and calves are selling well and have set record prices this year.
South-east South Australia and the western districts of Victoria are flushed with feed after the above average rainfalls during winter and spring and plenty of hay and silage is being made as I am writing this.
The winter got very wet and agents were pretty quiet with the big wet and in some places floods, but are now full on.
