THE launch of the federal government’s $10 million global campaign to attract more backpackers to Australia has been met with enthusiasm by Member for Barker Tony Pasin.
Mr Pasin said the three-year campaign would target the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Germany and Italy to boost the number of working holidaymaker arrivals.
“The campaign by Tourism Australia invites young people around the world to come to Australia for a life-changing experience, working and holidaying in our beautiful country,” he said.
“This is not only a boom for our tourism industry but also our farmers across Barker who can get their fruit off the tree, off the vine and off to market.
“Agriculture and tourism makes a fundamental contribution to local economy in the Riverland, Barossa, Limestone Coast and Murraylands.”
The campaign comes after the Coalition’s recent reform package where the backpacker tax proposal was trimmed from 32.5 per cent tax from the first dollar earned to 19pc.
“It’s one more way that we are working to ensure our regions remain a vibrant hub of industry and employment into the future,” Mr Pasin said.
