A message from a daughter of an innovative farmer.
Charlie Webb, the founder and inventor of “Back Up Charlie” Sheep Handling systems is a farmer who is aspiring to lead by example and make a difference within Australian agriculture through encouraging innovation. You may have heard, and I certainly know I have heard many farmers say “I’m not just a farmer, I’m a vet, a councillor, a builder, a welder, a plumber, an agronomist” and the list goes on.
We as farmers are at the forefront of innovation.
Even though this might be slightly exaggerated, there is definitely some element of truth in this. Within all of these skills, each and every farmer has their own specialty. We as farmers are at the forefront of innovation.
You and I both know what works and what doesn’t.
We build and develop inventions because we know that it will make our job easier and more efficient.
This is because we are the people that are continuously doing those day to day jobs, crutching those sheep, building those cattle yards or spraying that crop. So I guess what I am trying to say, why wait for those big companies to develop something new or even worse discover your brilliant idea. There is a niche in every market and you never know, that one little gem you have sitting at home may help many other farmers and become an adventure of its own. Innovation and simplicity is the key to developing the Australian Agricultural industry.
