125 of 131 Perendale Composite rams sold to $2300, av $1488
98 of 101 Southdown Composite rams sold to $1300, av $966
THE maternal sire market at Yarram Park’s sale on Tuesday last week was again strong, with a pleasing result achieved, with 125 of the 131 rams offered sold to top at $2300 to average $1488.
The sale saw the top price come from Lot 38; tag number 150516, which was purchased by the 2015 volume buyer, Mondilibi Pastoral Company Mortlake.
150516 is young 14 month old sire with ASBV traits of 6.3 weaning weight (WWT), 9.5 post weaning weight (PWWT), -0.7 Fat depth (PFAT) and 0.6 eye muscle depth (PEMB).
Mondilibi Pastoral purchased a total of 78 rams in 2015 with an average of $1071, due to those large numbers purchased last year they only needed six rams to average $1833.
Tongy Station, Cassilis, NSW, was the main volume buyer at Yarram Park, buying through Ash Vincent, Livestock Consulting Victoria.
They purchased a total of 36 Perendale Rams to a top of $1700 to average $1511 and 10 Southdown Rams to a top of $1300 twice to average $1000 with an overall average of $1400 for the 46 rams purchased.

Livestock Consulting Victoria also purchased a further five Perendale and 20 Southdown rams for various clients around the Geelong district.
Murdeduke Ag, Winchelsea, was another volume buyer on the day, purchasing a total of 17 Perendale Rams and six Southdown rams for an average of $1300.
While John Hayden; DCF Marine and Will Osmond purchased seven rams to average $1728, $1271 and $871 respectively.
Antony Baillieu, Yarram Park prinicpal, said he was extremely happy with the sale result, with plenty of new buyers.

“On the back of a very strong sheep market, I feel ours is consistent with how the other sales are going,” he said.
Bernie Grant, LMB Linke Agent and Auctioneer said it was a very solid result on the maternal rams which goes to show the consistency in the product & type as it showed right through the catalogue.
