Englewood Park
100 of the 112 sold to $1800, av $986
ENGLEWOOD Park’s 39th annual production sale at Inverleigh on Wednesday (October 12) was a success.
Principal Geoff Oliver said demand for Poll Dorset rams was very strong with 100 of the 112 offered sold at an average price of $986.
This year’s top price was $1800. Return buyer John Nelson & Son, Barwood, Cressy, secured the ram that will be used in a ram breeding program.
The autumn-drop ram, tag 50-15, is a son of Ashbank 110-08 that has bred very well at Englewood Park since being purchased at Bendigo in 2009
It weighed 118 kilograms and had an eye muscle area of 38.89 square centimetres.
Fellow long-term clients, Geoff and Di Notman, Mt Widderin Pastoral, Skipton, again purchased three of the top-end rams for an average of $1620.
Earlier this month, the Notmans topped the Ballarat saleyards with a heavy pen of Engelwood-blood lambs.
New buyer Adrian Rinaldi, buying through Elders Bendigo, also secured three rams at a $1500 average.
Murray Horne, Cressy, was another volume buyer with five rams to average $1145.
“The top end of rams sold to very strong demand with a lot making more than $1000,” Mr Oliver said, adding they were big, bold, strong rams with plenty of muscling.
Demand for the White Suffolk draft was not as strong with nine of the 21 offered sold to $850 and average $750.
Mr Oliver said with the lamb market being so strong, people were looking for terminal sires and the future of the industry looked really bright.
He said a lot of the rams were going to Western District farms, and some to northern areas including in the Mallee and the Corowa area.
The selling agents were HF Richardson and Charles Stewart.
