Panorama Poll Merinos
21 of 32 sold to $2700, av $1200
Frank and Marg Byrne’s 27th Panorama Poll Merino Sale, held last Wednesday at their property at Borung, was held in the best seasonal conditions Mr Byrne had ever witnessed.
The sale was again well supported by local buyers, but also had northern and western district purchasers.
Of the 32 rams on offer, 21 sold under the hammer, and three after the sale.
The top price was $2700, and average $1200, which was $50 higher that last year’s average, but with fewer rams sold.
Mr Byrne said that while sale numbers were down on last year’s offering of 40, he had also sold extra rams at the Australian Sheep and Wool Show at Bendigo in July.
He said that the wet season had meant a number of buyers were absent due to delayed shearing programs.
Long-time client, Arundal Station, Kyalite, this year represented by Lane Hodgson, was again a strong supporter.
Mr Hodgson bought three early lots, including Lot 3, the top-priced ram of the sale at $2700, av $1533.
The May-drop ram carried fleece measurements of 21.9 micron, a standard deviation (SD) of 3.2, and a 14.5pc co-efficient of variation (CV).
Mr Byrne said the top-priced ram had a great frame and fleece, and was still only a two tooth.
AR and JM Wiltshire, who bought five rams last year, returned to buy three rams this year, at a top of $1500.
The sale was conducted by Rodwells, with Nick Byrne as the auctioneer.
